Can’t You Just Give Me A Ballpark Figure?

If you work as a consultant or contractor, i’m sure you’ve had this experience. A client calls you up, and says they have work for you. (This is a good thing.) But they need a quote immediately.

No problem.

  1. What did you need? Well, we don’t really have a scope of work yet…
  2. When does it need to be done? I’m not sure what the delivery date is…
  3. Which parts am I doing? We’ll probably have some of our people doing some of it…
  4. When do you need the quote? By the end of business today — for sure!

Seth Godin has a truly wonderful response for this, that I intend to use.
